A dress as a skirt

You can wear a particular top/dress/a pair of pants in multiple ways-by layering, accessorizing, belting, adding a scarf, adding a brooch, adding a sash, mixing and matching with different pieces of clothing.

Today I am wearing my striped dress as a skirt by layering it with a top. I have worn this dress as a top as well!I'll share that with you soon! Stick around! Have a great weekend and dress up!

The Half-Sari

The Half-sari is a lesser known way of dressing up, specific to Manipur in India. The half-sari was created by working women in Manipur- a practical and manageable way of wearing the traditional outfit.
As I have mentioned before, the Manipuri traditional outfit is a combination of the phanek(wrap) and a phi(stole). Instead of wrapping it around as usually a stole is, one end of the stole is pleated and tucked into the phanek and the other end worn across one shoulder as the sari is worn. Instead of pleating it and pinning it to my shoulder(as working women do), I'm leaving it open here. The delicate silk stole with floral motifs and the striped 'Mapan naiba' phanek (wrap) compliment each other. Mixing of prints- tried and tested, and interpreted here yet again! The outfit is accented with vintage Manipuri design jewellery. These designs have still not been incorporated into mainstream Indian jewellery and are are still limited to Manipur and only available in the region. Hope they are soon!

Scarf Top

Today, I made myself a top out of a scarf! I tied one end of a square scarf onto my necklace and folded the bottom of the scarf to a length I preferred. I then tied the back ends of the scarf into a tight knot. Road tested right here!

It's a light halter backless top perfect for the summer-you can wear this to the beach too! Layer it with a bandeau or spaghetti top or a delicate shrug to go with it.

Stripes and florals

Mixing prints is the norm these days. I am mixing my stripes with my florals today. I had earlier mixed plaid checks and florals(here) and florals with a leopard print(with my shoes)(here). I am experimenting with only 2 pieces of my outfit and I like to mix with subtle and soft prints. You can experiment with bolder prints-you just have to play around with it a little bit but be careful or you could end up sporting a fruit salad!I am not a big fan of that particular Gaga trend, are you?

Have you interpreted the mixing prints trend yet?

Playing dress up!

I picked up this chiffon dress some time back while shopping in India ..It is slightly lengthier than I would have preferred but I loved it because of its simplicity-a simple deep V-neck with fine smocking detail on the empire waistline and the neckline. Since it comes across as pretty plain, I tried pairing several necklaces with it before I settled for these two that I have worn together. Since the necklaces are chunky, my earrings are simple studs.

I have been looking for the perfect satin tie up heels but the hunt has been in vain...so, I decided to create my own pair :) I bought some satin ribbon from Michaels and cut it into two equal pieces. I simply tied it around my ankles-I also tried curling it underneath the sole, around the heel and tying them around the ankle. And here they are:my very own pair of satin tie up heels! To break the monotony of color, I accessorize with a snake print over-sized clutch.
